Aimpoint T-2 Red Dot Sight Review
The Aimpoint Micro T-2 is a rugged, compact tube-style red dot sight with an 18mm clear aperture and a 2 Minute of Angle (MOA) LED projected red dot reticle. Powered by a single CR2032 Lithium battery, the optic has an expected average battery life of 50,000 hours. The T-2 is suitable for rifle, carbine, shotgun, and even handgun applications for close-range engagements under austere environments.
Aimpoint AB is a recognized leader in red dot sight technology and the red dot sight’s originator 45 years ago. The company is Sweden based and was established in 1975. Aimpoint sights have been in military service since 1997 and continue to be fielded in law enforcement agencies. Several militaries include the U.S. Army, where I first became familiar with them.
Bottom Line Up Front
The Aimpoint T-2 is the perfect Keep it Simple Stupid (KISS) solution for those looking for a top-performing compact red dot sight fit for duty. Aimpoint optics have been proven repeatedly in service and come highly endorsed by many professional shooters and operators.
This red dot sight simply gets the job done in almost any environment under the harshest conditions you could ever find yourself operating in. The Micro T-2 is one of the most reliable, action-ready red dot sights you can put on a lead slinger.
Top Features of the Aimpoint T2
Design
The Micro T-2 is a tube-style compact red dot sight machined from high strength aluminum making for an optic rugged yet light, weighing only 3.4 oz with the battery included.
The sight’s body is coated with a hard-anodized black non-glare finish to protect from scratching and withstand corrosion via occasional contamination by lubricants, cleaner, and oils.
Being a compact red dot sight, the Aimpoint T2 maintains a small form factor with a 2.7 in length x 1.6 in width x 1.4 in height along with a clear aperture diameter of 18mm. The shape and size allow for a sleek, discreet presentation during engagements that enable snag-free rapid target acquisition/observation and situational awareness.
Aimpoint specifies that the optic is submersible to 25 meters; this is consistent with the Ingress Protection Code of IP68. You won’t have to worry about water or dust intrusion.
The Aimpoint T-2 incorporates advanced optical lenses that are coated to reduce glare. We noticed how clear these lenses are, unlike some lenses that often have a slightly bluish or green hue.
Another thing to note about the lenses of the T-2 is that the front lens of this optic is tilted, allowing for a crisper reticle dot and no observable forward optical signature from the dot when viewed from the front beyond 10 meters using the NVD brightness setting.
Reticle
The Aimpoint Micro T-2 has a single 2 MOA red dot reticle produced by a red Light-Emitting Diode (LED) at a wavelength of 655nm +/- 10nm. There are 12 reticle intensity settings to ensure adequate brightness to match the various ambient light conditions you may encounter. Settings 1-4 are compatible with Night Vision Devices (NVD), while settings 5-12 are for daytime use.
Adjustments to the brightness levels are accomplished through a single side-mounted rotary-style intensity switch. I feel that the rotary switch provides adequate tactile feedback when making brightness adjustments.
Operation
Powered by a single CR2032 3V lithium coin battery, the Micro T-2 will provide approximately 50,000 hours of battery life when set on the level 6 brightness setting. Aimpoint can achieve such a high battery life through its Advanced Circuit Efficiency Technology (ACET), a proprietary low power consumption diode circuitry system.
This allows you to continuously leave the optic on for up to five years, ensuring that the optic is ready for use at all times. The battery compartment is under the rotary switch, so I prefer to change the battery annually since they are cheap, and it doesn’t require you to remove the optic to do so.
The operation of the Aimpoint T-2 could not be any simpler. To adjust the brightness, simply rotate the side mounted switch to the desired brightness level appropriate for the expected ambient light condition.
Adjusting the windage and elevation is just as straightforward as the reticle brightness. Both the elevation and the windage adjustments are in .5 MOA increments, translating to a .5 inch point of impact movement at 100 yards, or 13 mm point of impact movement at 100 m.
The windage adjustment knob is mounted on the optic’s right side just behind the brightness adjustment rotary switch. The elevation adjustment knob is mounted in the top rear section of the sight. Adjustments are made by removing the protective caps and using the provided adjustment tool or the windage cap to turn the adjustment screw.
Mounting
The Aimpoint Micro T-2 does not come with a mount. Depending on your desired application — low mount, 1/3 co-witness, or a full co-witness — you will have to purchase a separate mounting base.
My favorite mount for absolute co-witness is the 1.42” center height over rail Scalarworks LEAP (SW0100). And if you’re after a lower third co-witness, try the 1.57” center height over rail Scalarworks LEAP (SW0100).

Alternative Sight Options
If the price on this sight is too high, but you still need a similar reliable option at a lower price, one of my favorite budget options is the Holosun 403B. For a middle of the road alternative with an impressive track record, the Trijicon MRO makes an excellent choice.
