Holosun 507C Review
The Holosun HE507C-GR V2 (Now the X2) Elite is a lightweight, durable MRDS that touts the trademarked Solar Failsafe technology with three reticle options in green illumination. The sight is the perfect solution for handgun owners, competition shooters, and hunters. The 507C X2 has the same footprint as the Trijicon RMR and is an excellent choice for handgun applications.
Holosun Technologies has gained popularity in recent years as a manufacturer of quality shooting optics at a reasonable price point. The 507C X2 red dot sight is a shining example of what you can expect from the Holosun family of shooting optics.
Bottom Line Up Front
With the Holosun HE507C-GR X2 green dot sight, you get innovative, cutting-edge technology within a solid chassis that will stand the harsh conditions of repeated recoil forces of a slide ride pistol and the abuses encountered under everyday range and hunting conditions. We are thoroughly impressed with the quality of construction and feature-rich options housed within the 507C MRDS.
If you are interested in a red dot sight for a pistol to use in the self-defense or duty carry role then I suggest the 508T-RD X2.
Update for 2020: The 507C X2 demonstrated that Holosun was listening to its customers. First of all, they fixed our one CON from the previous model by moving access to the battery from beneath the optic to an easy-to-access side battery door. The other great operational feature for the 507C V2 update is replacing the tiny pencil eraser control buttons with nice large and clean tactile buttons. Unfortunately, the large buttons were removed and replaced with smaller but still functional ones with the update to the X2.
When you purchase this sight, you will get a top-performing optic suitable for professional and civilian applications. With three reticle pattern choices and twelve brightness levels, there are thirty-six options for target engagement in just about every environment and any condition.
We know most of you will likely purchase the 507C X2 for pistol/handgun setups, but this sight will perform equally as well on a rifle, carbine, or shotgun. We have given the Holosun HE507C-GR X2 Elite an unwavering endorsement. You will not be disappointed when you purchase this sight.
Top Features of this Holosun Red Dot Sight
Design
The Holosun 507C X2 is computer numerical control (CNC) machined 7075-aluminum giving it a rigid, lightweight chassis. The sight weighs only 2.65 oz and is 1.8 inches in length and 1.2 inches wide. The sight has the same footprint as the Trijicon RMR and will fit any milled slide or mount for the RMR.
The HE507C-GR X2 has a low-profile rounded top that is 1.6 inches high, providing a 0.63-inch x 0.91-inch viewing window. The sight’s rounded top and protrusion-free sides enable snag-free operation advantages when drawing and operating in conjunction with tactical gear.
The sight sports a water Ingress Protection of IP67 rating, making it suitable for continuous immersion in depths up to 1 meter for half an hour. With an IP67 rating, you can operate the sight in pretty much any environment without fear of damage from moisture or dust.
Reticle
With the 507C-GR X2, you get 3x reticle options. There is a 2 Minute of Angle (MOA) green dot for use when precision is vital. When target acquisition is the priority, you can switch to a 32 MOA green ring reticle. You can use both the 2 MOA green dot and the 32 MOA ring simultaneously. When switching between these reticle options, you won’t have to worry about re-zeroing as the sight will maintain Point of Aim (POA) / Point of Impact (POI).
The reticle is illuminated with the new Super Green LED. The LED was created by Holosun Technologies to be four times more efficient than their standard red diode. The green LED is power efficient even when set to the higher brightness settings.
The sight has 12 brightness settings. Ten of the settings are for daylight conditions. The two additional settings are night-vision compatible. With this many illumination brightness settings, shooters will have no problem dialing it into any light condition.
A green dot is a great option for people with protanomaly, a fancy word for vision with reduced red light sensitivity.
Operation
Holosun Technologies have included their Shake Awake feature in the HE507C-GR Elite green dot sight X2. This feature allows the optic to go into sleep mode when it does not detect movement after a user’s specified amount of time. When the sight senses motion, it will turn itself on to the last brightness setting used.
The Shake Awake aids in battery power conservation and allows for an always-on operation of the sight, which is mandatory for professional use or self-defense applications.
Also included in this green dot sight is Holosun’s Solar Failsafe feature. Amazingly this optic can power the illumination completely from an ambient light source. The 507C X2 also incorporates power from a CR1632 lithium coin cell battery. The battery and solar array give it an operational battery life of up to 100,000 hours. It will be years before you will have to change this battery.
Mounting
The 507C X2 has an industry-standard footprint. For comparison, this sight will fit the Trijicon RMR mounting footprint.
The sight comes ready to mount on a standard Picatinny standard rail interface. Using the provided Picatinny mount, the sight has a single recessed machined hex bolt for snag-free operation. The 507C makes a great MRDS option for shooters, hunters, or law enforcement professionals.
Depending on your application, you may need a different mount to achieve co-witness with your iron sights.
